Market Opportunities for Innovators in Smart Cities
As cities become smarter opportunities are presenting for innovators who can deliver effective solutions to challenging problems. This trend is taking shape in cities like – Amsterdam, Dubai Internet City, Edinburgh, Lyon, Málaga, Santander, Greenwich, Yokohama & Verona.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich Council have partnered up with Innovate UK, Schneider Electric & TechMeetups to discuss market opportunities that exist for digital technology SMEs innovating in this area.
Speakers will include Charbel Aoun, President/CEO of Cities Business (Smart Cities) in Schneider Electric, who will discuss the impact of a rising population and the growing need of smarter approaches by city leaders as well as how cities need collaborative and innovative solutions to answer the urban challenges they face. This will create significant opportunities for firms of all sizes throughout the UK.
Niraj Saraf, Lead Technologist for Urban Living with Innovate UK, will provide an introduction to the work of Innovate UK, work that has been completed to date on future cities/urban living initiatives and discuss funding opportunities for companies that have a smart city approach.
Charbel Aoun is President/CEO of Cities Business (Smart Cities) at Schneider Electric. An innovative, resourceful senior business leader with experience of driving large ICT transformations and a track record of building new businesses by taking a billion dollar opportunity all the way from concept to execution. He has worked both as an entrepreneur and as an intrapreneur including 2 consultancies and 4 start-ups within technology innovative fast paced dynamic environments across the globe. Charbel will be discussing the opportunities for SMEs and small companies to work with large organisations such as Schneider and what those organisations can expect in a relationship.
Niraj Saraf is a Lead Technologist for Urban Living with Innovate UK. A strategist and innovator he is passionate about sustainability and has had a wide ranging career that has taken in the Civil Service, banking, international development, entrepreneurship, and management consultancy. Prior to joining Innovate UK, he worked at Ashridge Business School as a faculty member for strategy and innovation and holds an MBA from Imperial specialising in innovation and entrepreneurship. He is currently studying for a Masters in Sustainability and Responsibility. Excited by technological innovation, he is also concerned that human and social factors that are at the heart of implementation and in a design approach to innovation. Niraj will provide an introduction to Innovate UK, work that has been completed to date on future cities/urban living initiatives, the Urban Living strategy and competitions that will be coming up that companies will be able to apply for funding through.
